The Punjab Transport Department operates in accordance with Section 213 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It was established to enforce the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Punjab Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1924 (amended in 1993). These regulations are applied throughout the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Transport Department in Punjab is primarily overseen by the State Transport Commissioner (TC), with support from two additional State Transport Commissioners, a Joint State Transport Commissioner, Deputy Controller (F&A), Deputy State Transport Commissioner, Service Engineer, Automobile Engineer, and Assistant Transport Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To enhance and streamline Punjab’s road transport system, Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs), also known as RTOs, are established under Section 68 of the Motor Vehicles Act. These RTAs exercise their authority and carry out functions in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Punjab Transport Department is dedicated to ensuring safe and convenient mobility for the public on the state’s roads through an effective road transport management system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
