In the state of Maharashtra, High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are required for all new and old vehicles as a means of curbing vehicle theft and ensuring uniformity in vehicle identification marks. According to the HSRP tender documents, approximately 2.10 crore vehicles were registered in Maharashtra from 2008 to 2019, which includes 1.62 crore two-wheelers and 33 lakh four-wheelers. All of them need to apply for HSRP number plates. Booking Process for HSRP in Maharashtra
For New Vehicles
To have the HSRP plate attached to your new vehicle in Maharashtra, simply approach the dealership where you purchased the vehicle and request them to complete the process for you.
For Older Vehicles
- Go to official portal for your zone. As mentioned in the next section.
- Click on Book/Apply/Order HSRP.
- Enter registration number, last 5 digit chassis and engine number and mobile number and click on validate button.
- In case mobile number does not validated with Parivahan Sewa portal then update mobile number through the link provided on the screen.
- In case mobile number gets validated then select city from the dropdown menu.
- Select fitment location, month of your choice.
- Locations available for fitment shall appear on the screen. Click on the green button to check your slot availability.
- Enter your name, email id, vehicle class, vehicle type and captcha code and press proceed button.
- Select payment method and get the payment receipt downloaded.

HSRP Features
- The HSRP plates are electronically linked to the vehicle after they are installed.
- The Ashok Chakra measures 20 mm x 20 mm and is hot stamped on the top left corner of both the front and rear plates. It is made of chromium-based material.
- The “IND” font is one-fourth the size of the vehicle number font and should be colored blue.
- The identification number has a minimum of 10 digits and is laser branded on the reflective sheet. It is affixed to the bottom left side of the plate with a font size of 5 mm.
- Colour-coded stickers with information such as the registering authority and registration number should be attached to the windscreen and HSRP plates.
- The plates have non-removable snap locks that cannot be easily replaced.
- HSRP number plates are made of 1.0 mm thick aluminum and have a lifespan of 5 years.

The Maharashtra Transport Commissioner’s Office has established a deadline of March 31, 2025, for the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) on vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019.
What is warranty policy for HSRP in Maharashtra?
The High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) come with a five-year warranty in accordance with the CMVR, 1989; however, this warranty does not cover damages resulting from accidents or misuse, installation errors, or exposure to harsh chemicals or additional drilling. To make a claim, you need to submit photographic evidence to the customer support email, and if your claim is deemed eligible, your plate will either be repaired or replaced.
